Basic partnership agreement with Notus Solar Japan, a provider of solar sharing technology that combines agriculture and power generation

Promotion of renewable energy among local governments and private companies through the development of solar power systems for agricultural areas incorporating internationally patented technology

2022/10/21

Sinanen Holdings Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Masaki Yamazaki, hereinafter "Sinanen Holdings"), a comprehensive energy, housing, and daily-life services provider, takes pleasure to announce that it has entered a basic partnership agreement with Notus Solar Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka, CEO: Ryuzo Takahashi, hereinafter "Notus Solar Japan"), which offers planning, consulting and mounting systems sales for solar sharing (agrivoltaic farming).

■ Joint-promotion of solar sharing in Japan

Solar sharing is an initiative whereby solar power generation systems are installed on agricultural land and power is generated while crops are grown. While the installation of solar power generation systems in Japan has advanced, suitable land for the new facilities is decreasing. However, the effective utilization of Japan's agricultural land, which totals some 4.372 million hectares*, is expected to provide suitable space for new solar power generation facilities.

Notus Solar Japan acquired the domestic sales license for Italy-based REM TEC's internationally patented 3D solar tracking system "Agrovoltaico." Incorporating this technology, it has designed and is providing the "Notus Solar System," a solar sharing system tailored to agricultural conditions in Japan.

As a general energy service group, Sinanen Holdings Group actively promotes initiatives toward the realization of a decarbonized society (carbon neutrality) by 2050 through the operation of renewable energy business and selling clean energy. Under the basic partnership agreement with Notus Solar Japan, we will work together to provide solar sharing systems as a new decarbonization solution and strengthen support for the decarbonization efforts of local governments and private companies.

■ Supply of renewable energy to local governments and private companies

Sinanen Holdings and Notus Solar Japan will collaborate to construct agrivoltaic solar power plants throughout Japan and are working together with local agricultural workers to operate them. We will supply renewable energy with additionality to local governments, private companies, and businesses involved in new energy through various methods of supply such as onsite PPA, offsite PPA, and the private power model.

A cooperative framework will be established under which Sinanen Facilities Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Okegawa City, Saitama, President and CEO: Eiji Kawana), a subsidiary of Sinanen Holdings that has been operating an environmental solutions business since fiscal 2021, will be responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and operation and maintenance (O&M) of the power plants.

■ "Notus Solar System" incorporating internationally patented 3D solar tracking technology

Notus Solar Japan's "Notus Solar System" incorporates the solar power generation technology "Agrovoltaico." This technology can cover a large agricultural area and allows solar panels to be moved to control shadows, thereby reducing the panels' impact on crop cultivation, which is a significant concern associated with solar sharing.

In addition, the system ensures highly efficient power generation thanks to its 3D solar tracking program and prevents damage to solar panels by moving panel positions automatically when there are strong winds, snow fall, or other environmental events.

Going forward, we will strive to contribute to the development of Japan's agricultural industry through proposing solar sharing to local governments and private companies nationwide, aiming to install the Notus Solar System over 400 hectares of agricultural land by 2030 for a total output of 200 MW and over 300 million kWh of power generation per year.

As a general energy service group, Sinanen Holdings will contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society and achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through promoting solar sharing.
