As a company that develops businesses rooted in the local community, Melife has implemented initiatives that make everyone in local communities feel safe, comfortable and satisfied on a daily basis through means such as implementing Children's Emergency Shelter Shop activities in all its offices and installing donation-type vending machines at some of its offices.

Melife Tomisato Store, located in Tomisato City and is the store that has entered this agreement with the city, functions as a central gas filling station and is fully equipped with emergency power generators so that it can operate autonomously during a disaster.

Melife will enter an agreement to provide temporary shelters in three conference rooms inside its Tomisato Store office for residents affected by a disaster should such a situation occur, and will also assist in supplying gas and electricity using its emergency power generators. The conference rooms are spacious and can accommodate about 50 people while the emergency power generators can charge around 50 cell phones simultaneously in addition to operating air conditioning units to ensure that the shelter is kept at a habitable temperature.

Melife will continue to make every effort to inform all residents in the local community that their office can be used as a shelters in the event of a disaster by holding disaster prevention and other related events at their Tomisato Store.

As a community-based comprehensive energy service company, Melife will contribute towards achieving a recycling-orientated society in the local community and achieving SDGs with the objective of "Leave no one behind" in the future.

■ Comments from Fukio Tsukagoshi, President and CEO of Melife Co., Ltd.

"How an energy supply company can support the local community is a question we all know is very important in these times when we never know when a disaster might strike.

Melife has had a store in Misawa, Tomisato City since 2003 and supplies distributed energy there as well as LP gas, which is often referred to as the last resort during a disaster. Our office has set up large-scale emergency power generators that run on LP gas, and although I hope a disaster never happens, but if it does, then it is my hope that these power generators can be used to provide and maintain power. I would also like to create initiatives that can contribute to maintaining and improving the quality of life for all residents, not just during a disaster, but during normal times as well."
