Background and purpose of the Project

As efforts to ensure energy stability (decarbonization) are accelerating in Tokyo, the Grid-Scale Battery Introduction Promotion Project is being promoted for direct connection to the power grid within the Tokyo Electric Power service area in order to encourage businesses to engage in energy storage initiatives. Sinanen has been selected for the Grid-Scale Battery Introduction Promotion Project Subsidy, which is part of the Project, and will be installing a storage facility in Asahi City, Chiba Prefecture.

Against the backdrop of the need for further stabilization of the power supply, the Project will contribute to the effective use and expansion of renewable energy, improve the power balance, and provide adjustment capacity through trading, with a view to participating in the capacity market*2, the wholesale electricity market, and the balancing market*3.

It will contribute to the supply of electricity to the Tokyo Electric Power service area in times of tight power supply and demand if requested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

■ Implementation structure

In the Project, Sinanan's Smart Energy Development Department, which is engaged in the renewable energy business, will handle development, and Sinanen's subsidiary, Taiyoko Support Center Co., Ltd., will own and operate the facility, after having been selected for the Grid-Scale Battery Introduction Promotion Project Subsidy by the Tokyo Environmental Public Service Corporation.

The storage batteries to be installed at the storage facility will be lithium-ion batteries and will be supplied by ITOCHU Corporation. Construction and installation will be performed in cooperation with Mitsubishi Electric System & Service Co.,Ltd.
Construction is scheduled to start in February 2025 and operations in July 2025.

Sinanen will continue to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society by strengthening the development and expanding the introduction of renewable energy to reduce the environmental impact of society.

*1 It is a public foundation established by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to complement and support the environmental administration of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and its municipalities. It plays a role in promoting proper waste management, resource circulation, the realization of smart energy cities, and the conservation of the natural environment.

*2 The capacity market is a market where future supply capacity (kW), rather than electricity quantity (kWh), is traded. It is a mechanism to efficiently secure Japan's future supply capacity by monetizing the supply capacity of power plants and allowing various power producers to participate in the market.

*3 The balancing market is a market where general electric power distributors procure and operate adjustment capacity more efficiently for frequency adjustments and supply-demand adjustments.
