Bicycle sharing service "DAICHARI" and maintenance base "Eco Base" to be established "SINANEN Green Electricity " being used to reduce CO2 emissions for battery charging to zero during 2022

2022/01/19

Sinanen Mobility Plus Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and Representative Director: Miwa Mitsuhashi, hereinafter "Mobility Plus"), which operates the "DAICHARI" bicycle sharing service that makes traveling fun and convenient, is pleased to announce the establishment in February of "DAICHARI" maintenance base "Eco Base" in the two locations of Chiba City in Chiba Prefecture and Kawasaki City in Kanagawa Prefecture. These Eco Bases will be supplied with substantially 100% renewable energy *1. The power used at "Eco Bases" will be substantially 100% renewable energy from "SINANEN Green Electricity," which is offered by Sinanen Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Takashi Yasuda, hereinafter "Sinanen"), an energy solutions provider.

Furthermore, we will be participating in the "SINANEN Akari no Mori Denki Project," an environmental preservation project that is promoted by Sinanen. The "SINANEN Akari no Mori Denki Project" is a project in which 0.01 yen/kWh (including tax) of monthly electricity use is donated for environmental conservation activities, and in which Sinanen also provides support to the same amount raised. Through this, by selecting "DAICHARI," users will be able to use bicycles that have been charged with substantially 100% renewable energy, and in addition, as Sinanen Mobility Plus has changed its eco-based power consumption to "SINANEN Akari no Mori Denki," the higher the number of users, the more that the company will be able to contribute to environmental conservation activities. This is the first case in Japan* of an initiative in which contributions can be made to environmental conservation solely by the user traveling on a shared bicycle.

■Overview

Mobility Plus, which operates the bicycle sharing service "DAICHARI," with a focus on the Tokyo Metropolitan Area and Osaka, containing approximately 2,100 stations which serve as places to borrow and return bicycles, as well as approximately 8,200 electrically assisted bicycles, is Japan's largest bicycle sharing business. By entering into a business alliance with three major convenience stores, various commercial facilities, railway companies, real estate properties such as condominiums, and coin parking, and providing a bicycle sharing service as a means of transportation for the last one mile, it has contributed to resolving local issues, such as improving accessibility in the deployment area through the use of bicycles and acting against illegally parked bicycles.

On this occasion, "Eco Bases" will be installed as bases for increasing the frequency of maintenance and battery charging in "DAICHARI," operations will be launched under a two base system in Chiba City and Kawasaki City (Chiba City from February 1, Kawasaki City from February 2).

In addition, the adoption of "SINANEN Green Electricity" for power at these two bases will mean that the power for all maintenance work and battery charging at these bases will be substantially 100% renewable energy. In the future, we plan to also install such bases in areas where DAICHARI is available, and have adopted the policy of switching all electricity used for maintenance and battery charging to substantially 100% renewable energy during 2022. Furthermore, the annual power consumption for charging "DAICHARI" batteries is 145,920 Kwh, and it is expected that the switching to substantially renewable energy for all of this will reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 65 t.* 2

Mobility Plus, through the development of shared bicycles, which is a form of environmentally friendly infrastructure, will contribute to the achievement of SDG Goal 13 "Climate action." In addition to making contributions towards the achievement of the SDGs, it shall create an environment in which bicycle sharing users can make use of "DAICHARI" more enjoyably and comfortably.

*1 The combination of the supplied electricity with a renewable energy designated non-fossil fuel certificate which adds attribute information such as power source type and power plant location will substantially realize a 100% supply of renewable energy electricity for which the value of its non-fossil origin can be recognized.

*2 Power consumption of approximately 145,920 KWh was calculated based on 0.38 Kwh of power consumption for each battery charge and approximately 384,000 battery replacement per year, and the amount of CO2 reduction was calculated in accordance with the list of emission coefficients by power company published by the Ministry of the Environment. A CO2 emission reduction of 65 t is equivalent to the annual amount of CO2 absorbed by 4,700 cedar trees.
