■Contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions in Scope 3, the upstream portion of the fuel supply chain
Efforts to reduce CO2 emissions are accelerating in Japan in pursuit of achieving a decarbonized society with virtually zero CO2 emissions by 2050 (carbon neutrality).Amid these trends, Sinanen, which sells petroleum products, has been handling Susteo, a next-generation biodiesel fuel*3, using Susteo in its logistics subsidiary's own fuel transport vehicles, and utilizing voluntary credits*4 as initiatives to contribute to CO2 emission reduction. In addition, Sinanen Sekiyu Co., Ltd., a subsidiary operating Sinanen service stations, has started home-delivery sales of kerosene with virtually zero CO2 emissions generated in the supply process by utilizing voluntary credits for general customers in some of its business areas since January 2024.
Now, as a new initiative to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions, Sinanen has begun selling fuel with virtually zero CO2 emissions generated in the fuel supply process to corporate customers by utilizing voluntary credits. This will enable customers to reduce CO2 emissions in the upstream (Scope 3) part of the fuel supply chain, by reducing CO2 emissions in the transportation and other processes before the fuel is provided.
Sinanen's main target customers for these new fuel sales are corporate customers who are already working to reduce CO2 emissions in the fuel combustion-related Scope 1 area and are seeking ways to further reduce emissions.
The Sinanen Group will continue to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions by expanding the introduction of renewable energy toward the realization of a decarbonized society.
*1. Voluntary credits are part of a mechanism for carbon offset, allowing the trading of CO2 emission reductions to offset greenhouse gas emissions that are difficult to reduce, issued by private companies, NGOs, and other organizations.
*2. Petroleum types handled are gasoline, kerosene, diesel, and heavy oil.
